Actually Willis,
I unplugged the speedminder. Maybe that's why I did the 180 degree spin on the exit ramp.

Looks like a good time...a few familiar faces there...Pete almost looks puzzled...pizza...with beer...interesting concept ;\)

One thing I've learned since joining the BCA, compounded by the Gopher State Chapter...Buick lovers love food.

Mmmm...Guinness.

I have been a member for many years and I know with all that is going on with the economy, much of an increase will see me waving bye bye as a club member. I am trying my darndest to keep myself and family afloat. I have been able to keep my old car hobby going by making some cost cutting moves, ie: dropping our cable TV to the basic package, saving $25.00 per month, having my wife cut my hair (I LOOK LIKE A DORK! ), detailing vehicles on the barter system in trade for other service/products.....it's tough, and if my wife sees much of an increase in fees, I am sure I can say
SEE-YA to the Bugle, BCA membership and the old car! I don't want that. $5.00 per month, I may be able to justify, but much more than that and the priorities will really kick in! Thanks for a great job in the BCA and the Bugle, I really do appreciate your hard work. John

I fully support the $5 increase but I'm with ya John. I have been a bad bad boy on buying a few Buick items that popped up on ebay lately and currently have my BCA national AND local dues as well as the AACA dues all sitting on my desk overdue and waiting to be paid. In fact I'll probably miss the next Bugle issue if I don't get the BCA one paid soon. But a budget is a budget. and here is what my Buick piggy bank is lookin like these days

The way I look at it is...

One, I don't smoke, I guess by not smoking I have saved myself 6 Dollars a day for a single pack, times that by 7 days in a week equals, $42 times 52 weeks in a year equals $2,184. Why, I just saved enough to buy some new tires for the collector car nevermind the 5 bucks a year extra for the Bugal. Of course I have never been a smoker so I guess I can contribute that to some of my success in being able to afford a nice early Buick. Not sure how smokers afford the habit?

Two, I don't bring home a six of beer every night. How much is beer these days? $8 a six pack? Sounds good I haven't bought any in years and never drank alot myself anyway. Do the math even if for only 5 days a week and you get $40. Times 52 weeks in a year equals $2,080. Add that to the cigs and I get $4,264! Why there's enough to get parts for that project car in the garage.

Three, Lottery... Well I did play this for a while. Spend a buck a day? 364 days a year? $364.

Totals to, $4,628 a year \:o just to blow smoke...walk around dizzy... and gamble for???

Not I cuz....WWWAAAA...HHHHOOOOOO.... Flint. Here I come....VVVVRRRRRROOOOOMMMMMM. \:D Dandy Dave!

I don't want the BCA dues to sound trivial but if you look at the average person works about 230 day per year (or less)
X 8 hours for a total of 1840 hours per year. The $40 per year amounts to .0217 cents per hour. Seems like we can all work that into our budget.

Some good points about adjusting budgets and priorities to deal with available funding for things like lifestyle and hobbies as commodity prices keep increasing (for various reasons--it's a very complicated MESS we're in right now, with all due respect). I concur that the BOD and its vendors/contractors have done an admirable job to keep costs contained and "within budget" or "under budget" over the years while still delivering some great products and services.

The "problem" with the car hobby, if you might call it a "problem", is that one thing leads to another and THAT can further strain budgets. Sometimes, one hobby vehicle leads to "more", too. Club membership is minor compared to registration, upkeep, repairs, insurance, and a place to park it/them safely/legally (at home or otherwise) while balancing that against normal everyday "operational overhead" for the household. If it might be a "single income household", these issues can become magnified pretty quickly!

Some of our BCA members are living on the proceeds from very well-funded pension funds and Social Security whereas others are probably scrimping by on SS and a little retirement income . . . as others are still working in high-paying jobs . . . as others are in "downsized job/income" situations . . . as others are still in the growing years of their employment and related income . . . ALL must be considered evenly.

Still, another $5.00 per year for the basic membership is not a big increase in that area and a little more justifiable than some of the price increases we're having to deal with on a daily basis.

Just some thoughts,
NTX5467
