There is an ad on Ebay that states "Restored Rat Rod?

Has the meaning of the word "Restored" changed and nobody told me?

Restored Rat Rod sounds like an oxymoron to me!

The original rat rod concept of putting something together cheaply with vintage parts has been hijacked by the bucks-up fairground rodder set. I actually saw "rat rods" at a Goodguys show with fiberglass repro bodies painted to look like they were rusty! They must be paying restoration prices to get that done, go figure.

Is anyone else really, really, really tired of hearing about rat rods? I even find the term "rat rod" to be unpleasant. I think even the traditional rodders with these types of cars despise the term. If it's a pre-war car of some kind and isn't perfectly restored, every bozo out there wants to call it a rat rod. Enough already with the rat rod BS. Enough!

Do a search on Ebay for "rat rod" and see how many things come up. Zillions! Virtually every used part has the term "rat rod" associated with it in the description. I recently saw a pair of crusty pink 1941 Buick taillight lenses with the title "Buick taillights! RAT ROD CUSTOM! NICE! LQQK!" How about if I add "WTF?" to his description? Clearly the morons using the term have no idea what it means or to what parts/vehicles it might apply. Stop it, you idiots!

How long until Duesenberg parts get the label "Rat rod?"

Feh.

Heh heh- well put! That's why HD is selling so much stuff to them- they got mo' money than sense. Plus I figger most of 'em are not turning their own wrenches and have given whoever does it for them carte blanche to buy stuff.

Here's a mental pic for you- car actually appeared at Roanoke VA MDC benefit show last year. Late 20s ratted Dodge body, mid-60s Olds drivetrain, the car actually had expanded metal floorboards and hand brakes only, actuated with a combination wrench welded to the rods. Unsafe in my opinion, and wearing VA antique plates- obviously to get around safety inspection.

Guy who brought it was dressed to the nines in Nautica and docksiders. And nary speck of grease under his fingernails- I look for stuff like that as it tells me a lot about the car owner. Whether he did it himself, or paid to have it done.

"That's a strange concept, Son" said my father as he sampled the day's run of silvery-clear moonshine for taste and quality. "Good 'shine, that. Your grandpap would be proud that the gift has passed on to another generation. But yes, it's real strange that some folks feel like a varmint has more right to illegally inhabit and destroy your property than you have to prevent it from doing it."

"Come to think of it, that's why your Uncle Reade sold off all them rental houses he had. It was costing him more to fix what the varmints tore up than he was making off 'em. And the govamint wouldn't let him evict them."

Great observation, those sockless twits can be found in many parts of the hobby. As a flea market vendor asking prices double upon the sight of the sockless ones. ;\)
