Hello, I just read in one of the local AACA Regional newsletters here in CT that a new AACA Region club is reportedly forming in the New Haven, CT area. Does anyone have any further information about that? Thank you.

That is what we are hearing also, Steve. I am a member of the Central CT region, and we have been asked if it will be an issue for us. I am new on the board of the local region, and am not sure if we have responded "officially" yet but I believe consensus is no problem. In fact, we would like to speak with those involved to discuss possible activities we may get together on.
Where are you in the "Mega-Nuts" state anyway? CCR AACA has some cool stuff lined up this year, we generally meet in the Hartford area, let me know if you are interested. Members with everything from VW to RR. We do the Glastonbury show every spring.
If interested, great, if it is too far, I will try to get you contact info for the folks who want to set up this region.

Thanks for your detailed followup Steve--much appreciated.
I was a member of the "last" AACA Region in the New Haven Area--the "Shoreline Antique Auto Club," which ceased to exist about 1999 or so (though we did originate the "Time Machines" car show in Durham, which is now being carried on in grand style by the CT Area Classic T-Bird Club)--so, it was certainly interesting to me to read that mention about the potential new AACA Region club in this area. Ray Y. from your club emailed me a name and a couple of phone #s for the new club, so I have some leads to follow up on.
I live in Branford, by the way, and I am "technically" a member of your Region (which is how I happened to get a copy of "The Distributor" in my hands!). I have yet to make your Glastonbury show (looks like June 8th this year, per the newsletter); definitely want to try to do so soon--hopefully this year if possible. But with my two growing kids and all of their various activities, my being able to attend any certain events is never a "sure" thing.
Anyway, thanks again Steve and I look forward to meeting you at one of the shows this coming season!

It is my feeling that the success of the Time Machines show is eventually when ended up grinding the Shoreline Antique Auto Club into the ground. It was so big and required so much planning--every meeting got to be like a car show committee meeting, and soon fewer and fewer and fewer people were showing up for meetings. Eventually the *four people* who were remaining still showing up for meetings said "why are we doing this?"
Thankfully we had already gotten the T-Bird Club to partner with us for a couple of years in running the Time Machines show (and also sharing in the proceeds, obviously), so they were ready to take it on themselves by the time we finally shut the lights out at the Shoreline Club. I like the Time Machines show a lot and still help out with the VW class there (also sponsor that class), also advance publicity in the months preceeding the 4th Sunday in July, when I hand out tons of flyers at other events that I'm able to get to. I am in awe of what the T-Bird Club people have been able to accomplish with the Time Machines over the years they've been running it.
I would say there are a fair number of antique-ers here on the Shoreline also--but you are right, rodding is big here (like it is everywhere!).
