Does anyone know if there is a tapered roller wheelbearing set to replace the ball bearings on the front wheels of '56 Olds? Thanks.

I suspect there are since I gat a pair off of EBAY a few months ago for my '50. I'll check to see who I got them from.
Bob

DDautoparts@mindspring.com is the address where I got them.

Thanks Bob. I checked their site and didn't see anything directly called a wheelbearing change over. Have you installed yours and how did they work?

Do you have the part numbers from the box..? or the numbers stamped on bearing and race..?
I have tried to find roller replacements and never have had any success.

I no longer have the boxes for the part numbers. The bearings and races are installed, not yet been run as the body isn't back on the chassis yet. I have no idea if the '56 bearing would be the same as the '50.
try this http://doonan.home.mindspring.com for more info.

In a pinch I could pull a wheel back off, assuming the application is the same, but right now it's a not so balmy 35 degrees in the garage.

Bob, don't bother pulling a wheel. It's not that important and I think the '50 is a different bearing anyway. The ball set up is OK if properly adjusted. My other '56 went about 100K before I sold it and the bearings never gave any problems. Thanks for the offer
