My 90 coupe has seen too much Texas (and Bakersfield) sun.
The rear window weatherstrip/rubber looks kind of dried out and faded. (flat black looking)

What kind of product can I treat the rubber with to give it life again?
I was thinking to use mineral oil but would like to know your opinion and
whether you have dealt with this yourself?

Thanks! Kit / 90 Coupe / 86 Fiero GT

You're going to have to look for a new rear window. The weatherstrip is an encapsulation edge that comes right on the glass unfortunately.
Although, I did have to replace a flat windshield in a Jeep I had leased. The Glass Shop started with the flat glass and added edge trim to it. It was profiled at least similar to what's on the Reatta, at least the top and sides. A "C" Channel pocket to go over the edge of the glass and then a bead profile to lap onto the windshield frame.
Check with a Glass Shop and see what they've got to offer. You may not get it fully back to stock appearance but would be an improvement.
We've had folks here sand and paint them, I do know from first hand experience the shops who carry the Paint systems that body shops use also carry a vinyl based paint. Got some to spray a motorcycle seat one time that was looking sunfaded but hadn't dried out or rotted. It's still holding up after most of 10 years. Was thinking you might salvage the bottom strip along the front of the trunk lid with a coating and replace the rest with the glass shop bead material.
My 2 Cents

Greg,

I sanded and dye-painted my rear weather strip with a SEM water-based dye/paint that has flexible characteristics ..... your post above sounds more interestng than my experience:

"We've had folks here sand and paint them, I do know from first hand experience the shops who carry the Paint systems that body shops use also carry a vinyl based paint"

Can you expand on the vinyl paint please....as in what manufacturer and how to acquire please?

Thanks,

Nic
