It's Christmas time! Time for that important letter from the Publications Committee announcing your chance at the limelight in Philadelphia in February.

I know of one letter already received. I'll let that person speak on their own. Anyone else??? Come on. Don't be bashful!

No letter here as of yesterday. Won't know until the 27th when I return from my sister's place.

Nope. Won't worry about it either - probably never will come here.

Dawn, you should always worry about it. Improvement of your publications should come right behind improvement of your children.

Why, just yesterday my wife made Mike pull his pants up!

"Son, you're not going around this house looking like a bum!

Well, I was hoping some other people would post first but I guess everyone has become shy.

I was fortunate enough to hear from both the VP of Publications and the VP of Internet. I have received Masters for both the Brass-Nickel Touring Region newsletter and web page.

Now, come on folks. I know there are more of you. I can not be the only one that heard something.

No children here, unless I can count 3 cats, my husband & his mom. And it is about a full time job!

I'm always looking on improving the newsletter, I just don't worry about the contest. To be honest, its not that important to me as I don't really care if I win something or not. The newsletter is not about me but the club. I'm more concerned about the members of our region enjoying the newsletter. Sure, there is a couple of people in the club that worry about the contest - that's the only reason I fill out the paperwork every year & send it in. Frankly, once I stopped being a little annal and worrying about the contest, I did get bumped up to the next level. Bottom line, if I win - I win. If not, oh well.

With the changing of the rules next year with the adoption of the Newsletter Achievement Awards Program (NAAP), I encourage all editors to take a look at this new program with a fresh eye. I also encourage you to take one of your newsletters from 2006 and see how it scores. I do believe that there is going to a lot of surprised people next year when the Publications Committee announces the result of its yearly evaluations. You might only have to make a few minor changes in your format or content to receive a different award next year - maybe even the Masters.

You can find more information about the NAAP in the new Newsletter Editors Manual that is now on-line. Be sure to read Chapters 3 and 4 for some explanations about some of the categories. Chapter 7 is all about the NAAP.

Thank you Judy, and congratulations!

Everyone, also please note that a large part of our Publications Seminar in Philadelphia in February will probably be focused on the new Awards Program, and the new updated Editor's Manual. So, make plans to attend if you can. The seminar will be on Friday February 9, 2007, 11:30am until......they run me out of the room!!

The term "contest" is out now. Nobody will be into a "contest" with anybody else next year, only theirself. The levels of achievement are clear. Now lets see if it works any better. The idea has been to try and identify items that will interest, inform and motivate our members to be as active as possible in our hobby. It's more about providing a level of information, than editorial composition and grammatical excellence. We may need to re-introduce some of that through a few more sliding scale scores in the future, but with 140 or more volunteer editor's, they can't all be retired English teachers, writers and reporters of books or for newspapers. If you have articles to interest the members long enough that they will sit down with your newsletter, then while you've got their attention, they are likely to read the valuable information about events coming and gone, things "you auto know" about AACA or your community auto legislation and many more things. Then you've accomplished your aim to provide a valuable service to your Region or Chapter. We hope they will be more motivated to get out and participate more. We'll see

Wayne,

I believe on odd numbered years I sit in the audience.

WHAT?

Oh, that's ok Judy. I don't care where you sit as long as you answer the questions.

Seriously guys, we're all looking forward to helping editors new and old improve their newsletters, their readership, and most of all promote the AACA, the hobby that makes us all friends!

Darn! Thought I could wiggle out of the HOT seat.

Seriously, if you are planning on going to Philly I encourage you to read up on the NAAP since that will be a large part of the Publications Seminar. Also, if you have specific questions it might not hurt to get them to Wayne in advance.

"Merry after Christmas" day. I was hoping to hear from some other Master Editors. Surely someone else won this award this year and is a part of our forum?
