I am working on a 1929 Oldsmobile engine. There is a canister located on the driver' side of the engine that appears to possibly be an oil filter (I don't have a manual to describe this part). If this is an oil filter, does anyone know where I can locate a new one? This canister appears to be sealed like a can and cannot be opened.

Yes, drivers side just back from the front of the engine. There is a line going to it? They are able to be purchased new, however they do not look like the original. You can contact Phil Fischer about the replacements. He knows the part number for them. pbfisch@mtco.com

Is it an oil canister or is it the stewart warner vacuum system? a picture would help.

I have some photos that may help... If you go to http://www.geocities.com/mymerryoldsmobile you will see in the "oldsmobile information" page a stewart canister. If yours looks like the one pictured in the manual, then it would be the vacuum system.
