Not sure where this one should post but here goes.

On the AACA ?Roster of Members 2006? put out it states
?may not be used for any type of solicitation?
As president of our local region, could I send letter to all members within 150 miles of our region, to let them know we exists, invite them to club functions and solicit membership?

Is this proper use of the roster or is the forbidden solicitation?

Good question Jay!

I'm not in adminstration, but I'd bet that if you or I sent that many "messages to prospective members" out, there would be an outcry. You know if one person did that, then others would follow, to the point that there would not be any more member rosters printed. That's just my opinion, of course! I have an opinion for everything, you know?

Jay,

I believe that the statement refers to solicitation outside of the AACA purpose. I'm sure that National doesn't want AACA members having their mailboxes clogged with unwanted advertisements for lawn care or house painting, etc.

The AACA Roster is one of the best membership tools for an AACA region and/or chapter.

In fact, the use of the AACA membership roster is one (of many) membership ideas taught each year (for as long as I can remember) in the "Region and Chapter Officer Training" seminars held.... and included in the "Region/Chapter Officer Training Manual" given out.... at the Annual Meeting. The seminar and manual recommends using the roster just the way you mentioned.. to find names of AACA members within an area surrounding your region that do not belong to your region... and call or send a letter to them inviting them to your region.

It is a very handy tool for helping to increase membership in a chapter or region. Our region, and I know a lot of other chapters and regions, use the roster for locating and contacting prospective members.

What a big coincidence that you mention the 2006 roster. I was just thinking today that I needed to go through the copy I have for a few addresses. A couple weeks ago, I had been scanning through the results of recent National Meets and found at least two names of AACA members located in our Region area that are not members of our region. I do not know either of the AACA members.. and maybe they might not want to belong to a local region... but I plan to send the names and addresses to our Membership Chairperson so she can send a membership information packet to both of them with a follow-up call a few weeks later. Its worth the effort for possible new members to join in on the fun.

Jay, no problem as long as you are not infringing on another region. Sorry, just saw your post this morning for the first time.

Looking though the roster it looks like we are only talking about 20-30 people.
We thought we would include information about Kyana Region which is the only other region in our area. Try to show the advantages to belong to "a" region, not just our region. Southern Indian in not a strong hold for AACA. Being small do do a lot of joint events with Kyana. We do not want any competition we just was to let all AACA members in our area that we exist and welcome them to join a region.
