24T42 24T42 Member Registered: 02/18/00 Posts: 758 Loc: North Carolina	I just had a thought. Lately, I have been getting a lot of emails about the newslwtter exchange program. It seems that quite a few Region/chapters have their newsletters on-line. So why don't we have a central location where you can find out who is on-line? The number of Regions and chapters that are currently on-line is reaching the point where it is quite a task to check all the web sites. So, why don't we have place where you can quickly and easily find out whose newsletters are on-line? For example - AACA On-Line Newsletter I personally would find this helpful. Oh yea - I did receive 2 private emails in support of it but the silence is deafening. Another good idea dies on the vine (and I was willing to do all the work). Oh well! Last week, I ventured into the North Carolina Region Web Site.....it was HUGE!!! I don't think we could ever accomplish such a task in our region. I'm not fond of Adobe, but the site was easily toured. We'll keep pushing from my end to help you along in this venture. I think Mike is capable of putting our whole newsletter up on the web site. I am not sure that I understand your comment about the NC Region web site. It is a large site but the only items that are in the pdf format is the newsletters. Everything else is in html. Well, I decided to go ahead and update my original sample web page. Since some web pages are set up in frames, I now link to the Region/chapter web page and not to the publications page. novaman novaman Member Registered: 06/11/00 Posts: 2395 Loc: Mebane, NC, USA	Wayne, The NC Region is a little deciving as it is actually done as 18 sub-websites inside one site, for a total of 19 sites. When you go to www.aaca.org/northcarolina, the only thing there is the first page you see with the black background. If you noticed when you were on a chapter's site (other than Catabwa Valley's which is hosted on another server) the url was www.aaca.org/northcarolina/(chapter name here) or in the case of the NC Reigon itself the url is www.aaca.org/northcarolina/region. With it setup this way if the chapter has decided to take control of thier site like Cape Fear, San-Lee, and Southeastern so they aren't overloading me with stuff to post, I can help fix any problem thier webmaster may have. Sorry but I have been busy either working (I can't believe my boss expects me to be in the office 5 days a week!) or trying to get another web site updated. I think it would be a GREAT IDEA to have access to the newsletters on the web. I would imageine it could be a big job to convert them all over to PDF files. I think that would be best because most people have the reader already or they can get one. Otherwise you will have a few other programs that people edit their newsletters in. Moepar Moepar Member Registered: 01/10/01 Posts: 806 Loc: Nebo, NC	Brian- There is a 'el cheapo' PDF creator that one can use to create PDF's if they do not have the Adobe one or can't afford the $199 cost. I think you can get it for free off the internet (simply called 'PDF Creator') or get it for $5 off of ebay (I did that before I found it for free-doesn't matter as it's paid for itself many times over). It wouldn't be all that hard for anyone to use it - especially since I figured it out!! the adobe reader opens it just fine, too. I think sending out extra copies should be an optional thing. A few in our club who have dial up would rather get a paper copy as they don't want to tie up their phone for a few hours downloading our newsletter, and that may apply to some editors. I know that high speed had only been in my area for a year now, & not everyone in this county can access it yet. It's not that big of a file-if you have high speed. One other barely computer literate member has never figured out how to get her Mac to open up the newsletter either. I'll need to check that out, but she's an hour & a half drive one way, & need to figure out what else I need to do while 'over there'! _________________________

I do know for example that the Minnesota Region publication, Northern Lights would take all night to download that. What I was trying to offer is, if the AACA could do it was: Have all of the publications in the exchange program available to download for any editor that wanted to do it. I have help in that department in that I have a club member who converts all of our chapter and the Minnesota Region Flyers to pdf for me so I can post them on our web site. The trick is you have to load an ad everytime you use it unless you pay. We used to use it all of the time until I got a copy of Acrobat for work. But,I convert it to a pdf then I can send it to him via internet & let him worry about posting. I guess as long as one person in the club has some sort of pdf creator that can help with converting the newsletters as needed, it'll work out. _________________________
