As a precaution check the belt for wear. It may be a good idea to replace it. If it was slipping it may be glazed. Make sure you got the appropriate alternator! Similar ones from the 3800 bolt right up. Check for correct output.

My entire hydraulic system non-operational. I need to replace all cylinders, rubber hoses and overhaul the pump. The metal lines seem OK. Currently, all windows are stuck in the down position.

According to my Hollander Interchange Manual, 1107931 replaces 1107912 and 1107923. This is for Cadillac all, 1941-48. I suspect that the 1940 is covered as well.
