I thought I would post some pictures of my 1950 Desoto woody wagon I am working on. PArt of the left rear was missing, and other sections were in baskets when I got it. The car was partly dissembled.

Here is a picture of the car as removed from the trailer. Slap on some paint, a bit of sanding, andtake it to a show!

Most of the left rear quarter wood was missing. The only pattern was the right side and what was left of the left side after the termite BBQ. The inserts on the 1950 Mopar woodies are metal, so this helped quite a bit too. The car was originally sold to the West Renova PA Fire Department, although it was originally green.

The front doors and the right rear door were complete, but both the right doors fell completely apart as the glue was dried out. At first I was upset by this, but as so much of the right rear door was missing, it really helped having the "pattern" door apart. Here I am glueing the right rear door.

Rustolium makes a wonderful spray can paint rust converter. It converts surface rust and leaves a chassis flat black finish. I buy it at Lowes, Home Depot and Wal-Mart do not carry it. Here the spare tire well has been painted.

left rear quarter coming to life. Ash is easy to work with, not as easy as soft wood, but Craftsman and Harbor Freight tools are not overloaded by it. It is not at all like oak.

Here is some of the wood with finish on it. Remember the "walnut" inserts were origonly faux painted. I am using vinyl to cover them. JC Whitney is one of a very few places that still sells this material. It will not be put on until the car is painted.

I like this picture. It shows how far apart a car has to come before you can build it.

some more pictures showing how I used inverted bar clamps to keep the top supported while constructing the rear quarters. I used 3 bottled of gorilla glue on the project.

Last year, I sold a one owner 48,000 original mile '49 DeSoto Woodie Wagon and wish that I had never let it go. This car was very nice for it's age. If you would like to view photos of the car, I would be happy to email you all that I have and believe me, I have close to 100 photos of the car. My email address is collectorcarsandparts@yahoo.com

I am on vacation now and can work on the car again. I cut and welded in new floor pieces today. IO bought a MIG welder and a Plasma cutter new on Ebay - they reallyh have come down in price. I bought a 7500 poubd winch too as they are now in my price range, or I am too old to come along. Life is good!

Dave, I am also working on a 1950 Desoto Woody, as well as a 1950 Chrysler Royal woody. Any possibility of obtaining some of the detailed wood photos of your vehicle? Especially the inside of the doors and quarter panels. Please e-mail me at greg.quinn@memphistn.gov. Thanks, Greg Quinn

No, it was origionally a fire truck. from West Renova Pa. There were red crosses on the rear quarter glass, and a light siren on the roof - the siren was not with the car when I got it.

I need to get some more pictures uploaded. The front clip is on, all 4 doors finished, the floors are done, rr fender installed, and the tailgate installed. The car is painted and is starting to look like a car.
