Can some one explain to me what a dash pot does and how to determine if you need a new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gerry ROA # 11736

"A dashpot is a mechanical device, a damper which resists motion via viscous friction. The resulting force is proportional to the velocity, but acts in the opposite direction, slowing the motion and absorbing energy. It is commonly used in conjunction with a spring (which acts to resist displacement)." Wikipedia.
In other words, it slows down the closing of the throttle blades in your carburetor so your engine doesn't stall when you lift your foot off the accelerator.
