Can anyone tell me where I should look for the part/model number on a Carter 4 bbl carb for a 401 Nailhead on a 1960 Electra 4719? I am also looking for some names of good carb rebuilders. I know about CARS Inc. but any others as well?

Just my own personal opinion but I would not send my carb to them (Cars). Not to be a negative comment, just me. Do a search here and you'll understand my comments. There is a person here, CarbKing??? that frequents the board, knows his stuff. Never had any work done but very knowledgeable. Hope this helps.

I've always found the AFB numbers stamped on the vertical surface of the left front tab where the bolt hole is. It should be facing the front of the engine.

Ed and Sean, Thanks much for the information. It is indeed a 2982S. I will contact the Carb Shop. Does the gas pedal start mechanism complicate things? Is it just a matter of disconnecting the wire, and is the mechanism something I would include w/the carb for the rebuild? Thanks!

Yes, you can just disconnect the wires, but remember where each one goes. I don't think they make the starter switch anymore, but most rebuilt carbs I have seen had one on them. I don't think it would matter if you removed it, but maybe ask the rebuilder.
