Bassman, you don't need a lawyer.
Just read the state law and bring the law book "number" to court, proving your case. If the judge is confused he will read the law book and make the correct decision. No point in spending money unnecessarily.

Since I know some people want an update and Bassman has not gotten around to posting it, I will steal his thunder....

Bassman's seat belt ticket has been dismissed by the District Attorney.

It's good to hear SOMEONE in that juristiction has a handle on the law and some common sense. I've always considered law officers a friend and am glad to have them around but when I hear of a bad apple mis-using what should be a position of trust it really makes my blood boil.......Bob

How was the allegation of making the family walk home in the rain addressed?

Be thankful it was a LEO that stopped you and not someone who ran a redlight or hit you headon and sent your daughter flying aroudn (or out of) the car because she wasn't belted. I love cars but I love my kids MUCH more and no kid gets into any of my cars that don't have seat belts.

Bob Hill- are you SURE beyond any doubt that those seat belts are properly anchored and attached to your cars' structure? The 65 Corvair will have factory engineered attaching points. The Model A and the 1954 Chevy do not.

They have substantial gauge metal that a belt can be attached to, but I'd still want some type of reinforcement at the attaching points- at least 1/8" steel plate welded to the car body structure.

Was pulled over a handful of times in a '60 Pontiac with no belts - once because the cop couldn't see the registration and inspection stickers over on the side of the wraparound windshield (where I have seen them as far back as NY has used those stickers, on those cars). Never got a seat belt ticket. Live in New York.
