Can some one tell me if the vacumm cylinder on the axle of the Columbia 2 speed is painted black or left natural? Thanks

I pulled one off of an original '37, and I couldn't find a spec of paint on it, but I guess it's conceivable it could have flaked off. Phil -- do you know?

I have salvaged several Columbia axles from Fords in junkyards, but that was nearly 50 years ago and I don't remember what color the vacuum canisters were.

The canister on the Columbia I got from Dan Krehbiel about 10 years ago was already painted black like the rest of the axle. Dan probably did that.
