Any thoughts pro/con about placing drain plug on transmission pan when removed?

heeeeeck no! I installed one on my Century. After a few thousand miles it somehow came in contact with something and got bent back and almost ripped out...it was dripping pretty bad. Dropped the pan, fixed it, replaced the pan and 6 quarts of oil...did the SAME thing a few thousand miles after. That time I took the pan in and had the hole I drilled brazed over.

I totally agree with Phil. Drop the pan, new gasket, new filter & bushing, and you can check inside the pan & magnet for BAD stuff. I'm sure one of the major car manufacturers would have designed a drain plug, if it served any useful purpose.

I've felt it would be a good thing to add but then again you typically don't have to drop the pan anyway. I suppose it depends on your driving though...if you were to put 40k/year on it like I do with my Subaru then maybe BUT still it's not THAT bad of a job to drop the pan with the oil still in it
