Hi- 1956 Ford, Fordomatic transmission, was shifting fine and still does, but has a faily substantial trans fluid leak that started after a 60 mile drive. All lines and connections seem tight. Any ideas how to start troubleshooting cause? thanks David Coco Winchester Va.

Hello David:

The first step is to find the leak's location. It could be the pan, front or rear seal, vent, dip stick tube 'O' ring, etc...
If the transmission case is grimy, you should first use spray degreaser to clean it. The leak's source will then be easier to locate.

Your might want to put a drip pan lined with clean newspaper under the transmission too.

Keep us posted.
