Howdy, I am looking for a nice low mileage clean cheap TC. I am wondering if the cars have any things that I need to look for.

I am a big fan of quirky orphans as I own two Mercury Capri convertibles (1993 and 1994).

There is a Yellow/black/ginger 6 cylinder in Hertford NC.
A Royal Cabernet/black/black four cylinder also in Hertford.
A Royal Cabernet/Ginger/Black six cylinder in Chasapeak VA.
All have been for sale for several months.
Now what you call "low milage, Cheap, Clean?" I call an oxymoron.

Hey Doc.
I sent you a PM. First I gotta tell ya. These cars are not quirky, they are very reliable cross country machines. There are some minor design flaws, (mostly due to only 1 run 7300 made, they never had time for minor redesigns), like the opera windows that like to get cloudy etc. The brake system design provides one of the best brakes in the auto field; but it is different, and needs some care, not usual to the american market, and not understood by every back yard, or even dealer mechanics. There are a group of pretty darn good Techs. on this Forum, and between them they will probably have an answer to any problem that may arise. As far as your search criteria; there are some clean ones, there are some cheap ones & there are some low mileage ones; but if you want that real good condition one that has been given the TLC a hand built Italian Marque deserves it ain't gonna be cheap...
What Mike says !!
Good Luck, Lou

Thanks for the information, I am checking out a couple that are on ebay. Hopefully I can get my Capri sold, then I can get the TC, and a Reatta. Since I quit drinking, I collect cars. ha ha ha

I was looking for the same thing until bush's economic plan fell firmly into place.

I also once had one of those awfully nice underappreciated, underdeveloped Xr2 Capris myself (I know the trick to getting those headlamps to work if yours ever get stuck).

The last TC I went to look at was listed by a local dealer on ebay. The sales people got so excited someone came to see it they set it on fire trying to get it started. It was a real shame. I later saw the car at another local dealership. The tow truck had done more damage than the fire.

I was the co-ordinator for the Mid-America Capri Gathering, the largest gathering of Capri convertible enthusiasts in the world (Australia has one but ours is bigger) If you look at my car on Ebay (yellow) you will see 30 of these cars in one place. If I could I'd like to keep it and get the TC, Reatta, and a Lotus Elan. I love those orphans, and it seems like I am stuck in the 90's. I just need a bigger garage.

I doubt that there is a A Royal Cabernet/Ginger/Black six cylinder in Chasapeak VA. That color was only produced in the '89 models and there were no V6 TCs in '89, only 4 cylinder models.

Hi drbob,

I recently found and bought a TC that was headed for the crusher. I couldn't let that happen. I'm in the process of going through the state inspection to get tags, and it's almost finished. The same salvage yard had a Reatta last year and had no lookers at all so it went to the crusher. It's too bad when those things happen. My TC is a '91, white with black rag top and black interior and a white hard top.

When I took mine to the Chrysler dealer for inspection a black TC showed up at the same time for repairs. This dealer has a couple mechanics who are checked out on the TC. Yeah team!

Welcome to the group.

Sorry No frown
Leatherique makes a complete restoration kit with stain, for about $150.00..Time, and some labor, and some patience, you can finish up with a pretty nice job.
You can also look for some nice seats from a Shelby Daytona Z. They fit right in. You can stain them the correct color.
Good luck, Lou
