I've entertained the idea of a RWD conversion for a while now. This site gives a lot of info about what would be involved in converting a FWD car to RWD: Probe FWD to RWD conversionI must admit that it appears to be beyond my mechanical reach...

Difficult, but not impossible. Depends on the projected use, a drag Reatta wouldn't be any more difficult rhan any other car. The Probe in the article was built for an NHRA Super Stock class, very specific rules. If you want a street car, that would be a different story. I think the biggest probelm would be getting all of the electronics working again. Bet you sent some shudders around this blog!

I stumbled upon the link on another forum. Funny thing was how many people commented that converting a car to a mid-engine setup would probably be easier than doing a RWD conversion. Hmmm...
A mechanic friend of mine reminded me that a front-engined, RWD setup eats up a bit of power because of the extra parts needed to transfer the power to the rear wheels. I'll console myself with that for now, but I sure would like to see those rear wheels spinning on the Reatta...

There was the '90s Cutlass that received a '90 Toronado drivetrain in the rear

If you want all wheel drive I would just add another motor/transaxle to the rear. Then you would have more traction and more power.
