I would suggest moving this thread to the 'Packard Buy/Sell' forum, tho.

Speedster,

This is on a totally unrelated topic. I have had problems logging in, so I could not write you about the value of hyperbaric therapy following a stroke in anything like a timely fashion. I have no idea if such therapy is a help after the event has occurred as long ago as yours, but it was amazingly effective in helping a friend of ours (Kirby Brock, by name).

He was a scuba diver and was diving in Monterey Bay in CA with a buddy when he found upon rising for breakfast after a day's diving that he couldn't talk, only make strange sounds. He also was losing the ability to move about on the boat without stumbling. His friend noted the change and suspecting the bends put him in their dinghy and took him ashore where the friend called 911. By the time the ambulance arrived Kirby was pretty much a vegetable.

The ambulance took Kirby to the local hospital and because of the diving history they put him in a hyperbaric chamber and after some time in there his movements and speech returned to normal. They transferred him to a room where within the hour the earlier symptoms returned. Back in the chamber he went, because bends was still suspected. Again his symptoms disappeared. This was repeated once more before the doctors correctly diagnosed his problem as a massive stroke and began treatment for that, rather than the bends. Kirby's recovery is complete today, but it took several years.

The medicos involved wrote up his case for the medical journals and I guess it has become a rather standard practice for early stroke treatment where the chamber is available. Theories abound as to why it is so effective and over its long term effectiveness, but it does buy time for the start of different therapies.

I saw that someone on this forum mentioned the hyperbaric treatment at the time of your stroke and wanted you to hear about this success at the time. Because of my log-in problems that was impossible.

I hope your recovery is also complete and progressing well. We need more people like you and your skills in this hobby.

Thanks for the Info Pete.
The doctors here never mentioned it. I'll ask my Doctor about it.
I changed doctors yesterday and I really like this one. He has more experience and takes the time to answer my questions, unlike the last one.
