My cousin has his grandfather's 1941 Olds ready for the road. He can't easily register it because the VIN # cannot be verified by CT DMV. Supposedly, DMV inspectors have been "all over the car" but unable to locate the VIN that would match with a copy of the title he received with the car.

Question: Where is the serial no. (VIN #??) located on a '41 Olds? The car is a 6 cylinder, stick shift and has the small '41 Chevy style body (a Model 66 possibly??). I recall some Chevy's of this era had the ID tag on the passenger side front floorboard. I'm seeing my cousin Labor Day weekend and we're going to try to find the VIN #. Any help would be appreciated. Pls. e-mail to mdesy@ghberlin.com

Thanks & regards,

According to the "Standard Catalog of American Cars" 1805-1942, the serial numbers were located on the frame left side rail under the hood.

Chilton's Auto Repair Manual says the serial number for 41 thru 46 models is on "upper left side of front of dash." Serial number has model prefix, ie: 66, 76 or 96 for 6 cylinder cars and 68, 78 and 98 for 8 cylinder cars.

Chilton's says motor numbers are on the front of the block above the water pump, and, on a plate on the end of the floorboard inside of the right front door. Motor number prefix is G for 6 cylinder and L for 8 cylinder.
