I'm a little stuck on gloss percentages. My dad and I are building our first car for show and trying to match paint as closely as possible. My question is two fold. Is the percentage of gloss on under hood componants judged and if so what is it based on. We are working on under hood sheet metal for our 58 buick special and the car had a partial restoration before we purchased it, so finding the original black paint has proven difficult. Any insight would be wonderful. Thank you, Scott

You can purchase 60% gloss, etc at your local supplier. Bill Hirsch, Eastwood also carry various shades of the correct black.

Years ago you use to have to add a deading agent which made it difficult to spray additional parts that you may have missed. Sometimes the shade wouldn’t be exact. If your going to the effort to do a correct restoration, do the research on the shade of black and do it correctly, it doesn’t take any more time to do it right. Good luck.
