Adam, glad to see the under the trunk shot. You're right, that looks a lot like the color on Hank's car. Hope you're enjoying her...

Bigger is better! laugh

It seems I am going to need to invest in a cut-off wheel...and lots of replacement blades. Every nut and bolt/screw is rusted solid.

Ripped the seats out today...and vacuumed another 30 lbs of crap off the floors. I can actually see how much rot I have now.

The front seat was as heavy as the entire front clip of a Camaro!

Hey Adam, Is that a heater running across the floor under the front seats?

That would be the under seat heater tube and coils

Nice. My family used to own a 55 with the under seat heater, and my 56 does not have an under seat heater. I just assumed 55 was the last year for those.

I was stumped by the appearance of the heater line. I had never seen or heard of one prior to seeing that. That was the only thing that made sense, though.

Now I REALLY need more room. This is going to be a tough job in a 2-car garage, having to share space with another beastie. I may have to figure something else out about the storage situation.

This car does look like it will take quite a bit of work to cut then fabricate and install new patch panels. Wish we could be there to help you.

Not much to report..

This is the pile of dirt and crapola that came out of the inside of the door.

I have half of the dash apart, but it looks like I'll be waiting until I can pull the steering column to remove the rest of the pieces.

Every door panel looks as bad as this one. Ugh.

Adam, if you need any parts, like rust free doors and good interior pieces, let me know. I just sold my 4 door Limited parts car and he is for sure parting it out.

Keep us updated!

Just bringing this thread back up so I can keep it in my head. I haven't had much time to work on anything this season. Pretty frustrating...

Bought a mig welder yesterday so I can start piecing this body back together. It came with an auto-darkening mask! Pretty sleek cool

I had the whole day to work on the car...for once.

I started by welding in a patch in the passenger side floor. It turned out ok, but I quickly found out I'll have to cut out a lot more to get to good metal. I kept burning through the existing stuff. I gave up and started over after a couple hours of fighting it.

I took the doors off after I figured out my basement storage situation. Everything on this car is just so bulky...I need a lot of room to store all the parts.

I just realized that CARS carries the floor pan sections. Has anyone used these, and how much of the floor do they cover? (I'll ask this on the 58 forum, too)

Adam:
How about classicfabrication.com? They make a number of floor pans for Buicks and other makes and they do list 1958.
Keep those pics coming.

Dave, do you know if this is the same outfit that is selling the floor pans on ebay?

I took my door panels and all the other interior stuff (sans seats) to a friend this afternoon to see what he could do for me. It sounds like he'll be able to get everything done the way it needs to be...at a very reasonable price, too. He's also a member of this forum smile

Adam: Don't know for sure. Can you direct me to a site? I assume you've been to Classic Fabrication's website. I seem to recall postings on the Forum.

Adam: I'm not convinced it is the same. One is in Detroit, the other is in South Carolina. Lots of the parts appear to be the same, though. Hope someone else knows for certain.

Adam,
I have used the Classic Fabrications product for floors in the 1950 Buick. Very happy with them and sure easier then making your own.
