I suggest everyone read the following forum thread concerning a car for sale that our friend, Matt Harwood, tried to purchase. Something to think about.

BEWARE THE BAD GUY!

This happens all the time on E-Bay. Nothing new to anyone who spends time there. Yes, they are all frauds.

I don't know if I would call them all frauds.........
I met folks who bought cars on epay and most are what was expected.

I'm sure Matt did the right thing in not buying before seeing. I wouldn't take the risk either. Just too much money at stake.

I meant the type of auction that was being posted. I have seen several auctions for 100pt 69 Ford Boss 429s with a buy it now price of $10K. Same for Corvettes and other exotics. All are frauds.

Just for the record, after the initial disbelief and cautious excitement wore off, I knew it was bogus. I kept going forward for a while just because I'm always hopeful, but as soon as he refused to let me ship it myself, I knew the jig was up. The rest was just to amuse myself.

However, I may re-assess my financial situation and see if I might be able to take Mike up on that '32 he mentioned...

A guy I know sold a Studebaker Hawk on eBay for over $20,000 to a museum. About 6 months later he saw the same car on eBay with the same pictures he posted and his description and a BIN price of $9,500.

He called the museum and they said they still had the car, and it was not for sale, so he reported it to eBay and they pulled the ad.
