I had to replace the waterpump on my 57 Roadmaster 75. While I had it out I decided to do some detail work in the engine bay. I was wondering what the factory heater hoses looked like. Were they red or black? I also wondered if the fuel pump was painted, and if so was it black or green? If anybody has some good pictures of an original 57 engine bay that would be great. Thanks!

Hoses were black. Pump was installed on engine bare metal, then the engine was painted. At least that's what I could infer from looking at lots of "original" junk yard cars......Bob

Thanks. I did manage to find a cast iron water pump. The cast iron one looks a lot sturdier than the aluminum junk that was on it. The impeller is steel compared to the plastic one that was on the aluminum one I took off. I noticed a lot of corrosion on the aluminum water pump and the thermostat housing/water outlet(I assume the aluminum water outlet is after market and the originals were cast iron). Galvanic corrosion I suppose. The old water pump also had the heater hose outlet, but was capped off. For an A/C car maybe?? Mine is not...sigh. The only option available on a 57 Roadmaster 75 was Air Conditioning and I got one without. Oh well, I sure look "cool" when I drive it anyway. Haha.

btw, if you know of any sources for a cast iron water outlet please let me know. I've got a few junk yards to check.

I have a question for you on your car...if you are running your original carb, do you still have the heat tube feeding heat into the choke on the left side of the carb? If yes, can you snap a few photos of how this is routed and send them to me or post them? Mine is missing, and I cannot find photos of any online. I have nothing to go by to make a replacement!

Yep, still have the original Quadra-Jet with the heat tube going to the choke. It's a weird fitting that goes to the choke. Looks kinda like a castellated nut. I'll get you some pictures.

Cars sells replacement pipes including the thermal sleeve that covers the pipe..........Bob

Cars Inc only list these for Chevrolet and there are several listings for the choke heat risers. Seeing as a 364 is quite different from a 283, does anyone have the part number from a previous experience that works on our cars?

The carb is a Rochester, but it's more than likely a 4-GC, not a Quadrajet. First year for a Qjet on a Buick was in '66.
