My fiance are looking for a classic car to rent for our wedding on August 9th in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I've been calling around and asking around and I've come up with a lot of dead-ends. It appears that if you don't want the cliche limo or the disgusting hummmer-limo, then you're out of luck.

Is there anyone who could help us out?

Desperately,

Amanda

Errata: I apologize for the missing words in the opening sentence. It should read: "My fiance and I are looking..."

Amanda, congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

This topic has come up here several times, and our consensus has been that renting out our cars opens up some legal and insurance issues.

However, you may find someone who is willing to drive you pro bono, or maybe for the cost of a tank of gas for their old car.

Agreed on Hummer limos. Hummers are disgusting enough on their own, moreso when they're stretched. I'm wary of the kind of people Hummers (and other SUV based limos) tend to attract.

That makes sense about the issues surrounding renting one's cars out.

My fiance and I love cars (my dad wanted me to get a muscle car for my 16th birthday, but my mum disagreed with us), so we'd be very excited if someone would be free to do some pro bono work (i.e. for gas and some really good food at our backyard reception).

If anyone out there is free on a Saturday afternoon in August and wants to drive around a newly married couple from Grand Rapids to Grand Haven and back, we'd appreciate it. smile

Thanks, Glenn, for the note...and the commiseration about Hummer limos.

Amanda, add my congrats to the list.

Something you might want to try is going around to some car shows/cruise-ins and talk to some owners about what you are wanting to do. Lots of times clubs post the dates of shows/cruise-ins at parts stores or on bulletin boards in the area. You can also find them in the local newspapers. You might just find someone that would love to help you out and love some good food.

Also, contact any garages in your area that work on old cars and they might give you some leads also.

Good luck with your search.

All good suggestions. I have been doing this kind of thing for a long time for friends and I only get a tank of gas and a case of beer, and sometimes some food at the reception.

With the prise of gas at the moment, you might be prising yourself out of a market there grin
