Another steering column question

I just bought a 68 mustang coupe with the deluxe interior. The tilt steering wheel has a cable coming out of the tube near the dash braket bolts. Anyone know what this cable with a small bracket on it is for? Not sure if the column is original to the car.

I thought of that but there is no shift caller on the column and if someone went to the trouble of removing the caller they would have removed the cable.

Sometimes they just grind off the shift caller and putty over it and paint it. You could try this web site. http://www.fordmuscle.com/index.php
