This is my first post. I purchased a 1937 Model 41 a few years ago and am just now getting time to do some work on it. The car is 99% original and 99% complete, but it did not come with a gas tank.

What are my options? Is there a good source for reproduction tanks for 1937 Buicks? Will tanks off of other 1937 or 1938 GM cars fit? Is there a late model car with a tank that will fit? If I get the dimensions, can a welder make a new tank for me?

I'm not overly concerned with keeping the car all original right now; I just want to get a tank on the car, so I can actually drive it. However, I do want to eventually do a correct restoration on the vehicle, so I don't want to cut/drill any holes in the sheet metal.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

The 1937/1938 Buick Club seems to have made an untimely demise, but through the efforts of a few great people it is still hanging on through a yahoo group. If you own a 37 or 38 Buick I strongly suggest you check it out. Among other things many of the old Torque Tubes are being posted. Check out http://1937and1938buicks.com/ .
I do not have personal experience but Volume VIII Number 4 which is online for viewing discusses using a gas tank from a 1972 Nova as a replacement on a 1937 Buick Special and Century.

If your car is 99% complete don't put a Nova tank on it. Call Dave Tacheny in Minnesota at (763) 427-3460. Dave has provided many, many people with 1937 and 1938 Buick cars and parts over the years. He owns dozens of them and has more parts than anyone. His prices may not be the cheapest but he's definitely not the most expensive, either. He'll have your gas tank.
