My 1954 does not have the vacuum wipers connected. On closer scrutiny it looks like the original fuel pump is not fitted. An electric unit pumps through the non-original mechanical pump. Question is --- can the wipers work directly off engine vacuum without the assistance of the fuel pump diaphram ? Thanks.

I've had a closer inspection ( took it off -- should have done that first ) and it appears that it could be the original but all the vacuum pipes have been pulled out. Can anybody assist with the correct plumbing of the vac and fuel lines in and out of the pump. I intend to fit back to original and have the electric pump only as a prime / back-up unit. That is the original fuel pump. I'll get some pictures of the routing of the lines and post today.

You can go here to see a pic of the engine end of the system.

Lamar WOW...complete down to the clips. Now Ken can't have fun bending and flaring his own like I did. Ken We are still waiting on the drive report on the rear gears. The best fuel pump kits are HERE . Willie

I've got a few issues with the rear unfortunatley Willie. I had a lot of trouble pressing the tail shaft onto the pinion ( as well as getting the old piece off-- 25 tons ), it was VERY tight. Had to make up a frame to press it in. And then I did some damage to the tail shaft which I won't go into, suffice to say I'll put it all together and see how it goes. I'm frustrated and want to get this car going. There are a couple of other small jobs to be done also, fuel pump, waiting on new tyres etc. So maybe a few more weeks. BTW, do you have a power steering pump apart for spares ? One vane has gone missing ?? I pulled mine apart and can't find one vane, either I've lost it or was not there when taken apart before. Will it run OK minus one vane you reckon ?

Ken What are you calling a tail shaft? If the driveshaft is damaged a good driveline shop can repair, straighten and balance. If the splined end of the pinion is damaged, maybe a machine shop can help. I know...I have done both to the same rear. I made a pinion puller/installer from the front and rear flanges of an old torque tube: puller1 puller2 Yeah, I know all of the forces are directed through the front pinion bearing, but so far no damage has been done. I have never had a P/S pump apart...yet. Willie

I love ingenuity and that my friend is a well thought out and engineered puller. All I have to do now is to get me a spare torque tube from somewhere. As for the "tail shaft" , that's what we call a driveshaft here down under so it's one and the same. The shaft is now straight ( after I put a dent in it from the press , I should have known better ) After the hassle of getting off and back on I'm going to run with it. I'll take a chance, if it doesn't work out then I've only got myself to blame. I'll put it out. In the mean time I'll hunt for a torque tube.

I found the vane. I thought I looked everywhere, but out the corner of my eye there it was on the workshop floor not quite where I thought it would be. So it's ready to put back together. The axle assembly is together and painted. Hope to slide it back under this weekend. Connect it all back up, replace 1 core plug and I should be able to test drive her.
