Well, this is going to take a REAL bumper expert. Just bought this yesterday and unwrapped it from its long sleep after being professionally replated, wrapped in a cocoon of cotton and protective paper and then abandoned (without paying the bill) for years.

No end caps to help give the year away but the plater swears he thought it was from a 50's Cadillac (with gas filler mounted in the tail light area).

Anyone have any ideas or better yet pictures of the application?

Well after looking at 20 years of caddy tailights I FINALLY recognized the "cadilllac" tailights as 56 Chevy (fuel door in light like on 57 Cads.

STILL have no idea what the bumper is off yet though.........

as you have already surmised, the bumper is an accessory portion of an aftermarket "Continental Kit" for mounting a spare tire outside of the trunk

made popular by the Continentals made from 39-48 then resurrected as the Mark II in 1956, there were a LOT of people making them for nearly every make of car in the early to mid 50's and through the early 60's, some simply extended the stock bumper and others (like yours) only extended the center section

it MAY be for a 50's Cadillac, you would have to measure the distance between the mounting points and match the contours with an OEM bumper

They resurfaced in the 80's:

Here is a link to a manufacturer that still has them:

Well looks like one of my Buick buds figured it out.

If this isn't it, it sure isn't far off.

Looks like a dead ringer to me!
