I'm looking for the bolts w/square lock washers, that hold the front sheet metal and fenders together my 1958 special. Apparently They were only used on 58 buicks. I have seen plenty of sheet metal on ebay but never the bolts. The washers crack and I am looking for enough to put my front end back together. If you have any please send me a PM or e-mail me at aircrafter1@hotmail.com Thank you. Scott

They were also used on 57 Buicks. I made a forming die and made my own. If I remember correctly someone did find a source for the damn things and posted it maybe 6 months ago........Bob

Bob, you never cease to amaze me at the level of creation that you use on your restorations! Instead of giving up, you "simply" MAKE your own parts! There seems to be nothing that you won't try or do. You are my hero!!

Aw shucks, Greg. They really aren't rocket science. I just made the punch from 3/4" square stock by belt grinding the bevel on the end. That made the male half of the forming die. Then I heated a 1" thick piece of steel to yellow heat and drove the male punch into it. That formed the female cavity half of the die.
Then I cut 1/16" tool steel into 3/4" squares, heated them to red heat, placed each one onto the die and whacked it with the punch. Annealed them, drilled the hole, hardened and spring tempered them, "nipped" the corners off on the belt grinder,a quick bead blast and they're done. A purest would get them zinc plated but I find a bead finish and a coat of clear lacquer does a nice job.
The originals had a captive bolt and lock washer teeth. I used "correct head" bolts from Cars inc. and used a bit of lock tite on the threads. They work and look real good.
Thanks for the kind words........Bob

Scott, I have a bunch of old style bolts similar to those that I got with a bunch of parts from an old Buick dealership.
I can't remember if any had the square washers though.
I know I've sold some at previous meets, but I'll try to check what's left this weekend and see what I have.

Jeff

Easy Pete, Hopfuly I'll be posting some progress pictures soon. I can say that other than the missing trim the rest of the stainless is finaly done. I just spent 2 hours going threw the headlight switch only to find the windings in the reostat are bad. Add that to the list....

Jeff if you have any of the bolts or washers that would be great! I just don't have the talent that Bob does. (Thank's for the imput Bob) I'm going to owe you guy's big time by the time I get to my first BCA meet. Thank's Scott

Scott, looks like if I had any I've already sold them.
Attached are some samples of what I did find.
Good luck on your search.

Jeff

Thank's for the effort Jeff. I'll find them sooner or later. I know with all the parts I have seen on e-bay there are some laying in the mud someware. Thanks, Scott
