On Sunday I tried to start my car, it sputtered when turning over but wouldn't start. I remembered someone said on the boards that when the car is slow/hard starting to turn the key to on and then wait a few seconds and turn it off a few times and then turn the key. I did this on sunday and it started right up. Before I tried that method, I tried starting it up normally 3-5 times and it wouldn't work. I can't remember who posted this method, since I read so many posts in this forum, but thanks.
It happened again today, my dad just happened to be standing outside and he caught me doing it. When I told him about it he gave me a WTF look and said that's weird lol.
BTW after it starts once it doesn't hard start the rest of the day, it'll start right up without problems. I think it has to do with the weather.

I think you have a dirty fuel filter or a weak fuel pump.

He has an '89 [the '89 had a tech bulletin on the e-prom]. I would lay money on the e-prom, or the Ignition Control Module. Starts hard first time, good the rest of the day. That's what makes me think it is not fuel related.

I had the EXACT same problem. At first I was sure it was the fuel pump. But after reading all the input from this forum I decided to try a few other things first. I replaced all the following , NOT sure which was the problem , but the car runs and starts EXCELLENT now. I replaced the ICM , coil pack , EGR , IAC , and put new plugs in. I set the gap on the plugs at .045 the ones I took out were set at .060. Sorry I can't narrow it down for you. But whatever it was the car starts immediately when I turn the key. Whether it is cold or hot. It was the best $233 I have spent yet!!

Hey Fellas, Mine just started acting up yesterday. Always started first time, every time. Now it turns over several times first thing in the morning & starts. After that, it fires right up the rest of the day (last two days). I'm going to try the ICM, coil pack route first. I will post--Good or Bad.

Quick update, talked to the Technician at Buick this morning, he agrees with Vincent. Weak pressure regulator. Did a quick test this morning. Unplugged the vacuum line to the pressure regulator, strong odor of gasoline. Tech said diaphram was probably bad. For now, I'll go this route & hold off on the ICM & coil. ( We'll See )

Final update: Thanks Vincent, you were correct. Replaced fuel pressure regulator. Starts instantly, cold or hot. One other suggestion I got from the Buick Technician. In many cases, cold start problem, but then no problems starting the rest of day:( GM Delco fuel pump ) check valve in pump sticks or just goes bad. Fuel pump continues to work fine, but overnight fuel drains off back into tank. With a little luck, adding fuel system cleaner to the gas tank a couple of times might free up the check valve. He uses Lucas products at the dealership & personally.( just FYI ) Thanks again for everyones input.
