This tire carrier appears to likely be an aftermarket accessory.
It is manufactured by Tripp Secord & Co. of Detroit, MI.
Patent date Oct. 16, 1923. In bold letters above the manufature info. is "Duplex".
There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to attach to the car.
What type of car were these marketed for. Was there additional bracketing to attach to car?
Any help/info. will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Tried to add photo's and it didn't work...
Added photo's...But not this one. How did that happen?

Bob, from "freepatentsonline.com": Tripp, Charles M. patent 1583905. It's identified as a "Spare-rim holder". Publication date was 5/11/1926, assignee Tripp Secord.

Perhaps it was intended for use in the garage or on the ground and not on the car?

Universal aftermarket intended to clamp a second spare to the first already attached to the car.

Gabi - All of the info. from the patent seems to fit, but the sketches don't match too well.

Layden B - I had thought that maybe that was what the aplication was for. A bracket/attachment to double your spare tire carrying capacity.

Anyone have any period advert.'s for this carrier?

Still curious why the photo attachment is a Buick and not the tire carrier?????
Thanks,
Bob

I have seen this item before. It is an after market adjustable spare tire carrier. It expands with the screw handle and fits inside an existing spare tire already mounted on the rear or trunk of a car. John
