Hi, I'm a newbie here. I'm a 72 year old man from Wyoming. In 2006, I acquired a 1951 Oldsmobile 98 sedan. I had been searching for one for several years because, at the tender age of 18, in 1953, I had a very nice one. I always wanted another one someday. It was a long time coming, 53 years to be sure! This specimen was in Arkansas, and it had just 28,500 verifiable miles! (stored in a very secure place free from insects and rodents) It's virtually a new automobile. The price was extremely high, of course, but after months of wrangling, I was able to get the price more into my budget. I hired a friend to get it and trailer it back for me. The previous owner had acquired it from an estate sale after having been stored for over 50 years. He enjoyed having it for over 10 years. He put on new tires, refurbished the brake and fuel systems, and had it refinished professionaly. He sent the original tires along with the car! There's no hint of rust on this vehicle anywhere. I haven't driven it more than 20 miles in the year and a half I've had it. We took it in a local parade last August, and a car show here, too. Since my wife is an old car fan, too, and since 2006 was our golden anniversary year, we presented each other with this beautiful auto, just like the one we took on our honeymoon in 1956!

That's a great story. A friend had a 51 Olds coupe back in the late 60's. I've always had fond memories of his car and probably would buy one if I found one I could afford.

I'm happy that you found your dream car. If I might make one suggestion though, try driving it a little more often. It falls under the heading of enjoying the car and life.

I bought my 26 Chevy Roadster to drive, not show, and that's exactly what I intend to do with it. To each his own, though.

That's probably good advice; can't enjoy it from a nursing home......or worse!

Due to an injury a few years ago I'm told I can look forward to pain getting worse and probably a wheel chair in my future. All that may not happen but just in case it does, I plan to put a lot of miles on my 26 before it does happen. The operative words would be fun and enjoyment.
