I don't have words to describe what you see here. The protest that one offered did not deter the camera man. smile

A very nice Texas Auburn in the back parking lot.

The side parking lot with tour cars ready for Monday.

After a short shower, owners came out to wipe off the rain drops.

Mike and Gloria pictured on the front porch of the McCowan-Mangum homestead on the "West Point on the Eno" park.

This is the front bedroom of this home with unusual pine boarding placed horizontally.

Really nice curio sheet.

Thanks for the pictures Wayne. But I beg to differ with you on one point. I do believe that Cricket, and parents, are members of the Brass-Nickel Touring Region. Cricket is a veteran tourer and would not hurt a flea. You must have made her mad or something. wink

Judy, I saw Cricket again today. She never barks, but will whine if you call her. She must be a lady dog! crazy grin

Ok picking on lady time is over. I took a few more pictures today. I'll post just this one for now. We had our coffee break in Reidsville, NC this morning. The whole town was open for our inspection. We had a large lot reserved for all of us, plus the side streets.

The Franklin below is parked in front of an antique shop. Gloria was missing in there for an hour, but my pocket book managed to survive her shopping. smile

Ok, here's the deal. Wayne is tired at about 1:30pm today. I find David Devine and tell him to not mess around, but get me to my hotel the quickest way(Wayne needs a nap! eek)

While waiting for David to get his pickup, a few tourers pass us at the gate. David and I get on the highway and follow along for a while behind the '29 Franklin at about 35 mph. David suddenly takes a hard right just before Reidsville to shortcut in front of the Franklin. We make a few more turns, left, right, left, gee, must have changed gears 10 times. We come back out on highway 87 just south of Reidsville. I look ahead and the Franklin followed by an Olds is still ahead of us. At this point the '29 is trucking along at about 55 mph. blush whistle grin

Not only did we not get ahead of him, but no one could pass him either as he thundered along highway 87. Way to go, Otto! You showed us all up. grin

The story of two Buicks. One is from Ohio, the other from Connecticut. This picture was taken in the front courtyard of Chinqua Penn Plantation. The 15th century fountain was imported from France. More about these guys after dinner tonight.

The Burgess clan in a cheap Chevy. That's Gloria and Mike in front of a home we could never afford to live in.

Wayne,

Just a suggestion here. Pick a car from out of state if you are going to try and pass them. Mary and Otto are from Burlington and probably know as many short cuts as David. wink

By the way - they are also Brass-Nickel Touring Region members. Way to go Otto!

Can I ask a question?

Is there anyone on this tour that is not from the Brass-Nickel Touring Region or the fair State of Louisana? confused grin

Forgot to thank David for the help today. Thanks David!

Wayne, I could have made it but wanted to take it easy on your car. It is one thing to launch a 6,000 lbs truck off some of those bumps we hit at 65 mph compared to doin' it in a '55 Chevy. Your wife would be fussin' at you and we're tryin' to keep them (the wives) happy.

Parking at Chinqua Penn Plantation. Old cars and mansions just go together.

The "music department" from the plantation. You wouldn't want to hear these peacocks cry on a fog covered night while walking alone.

Jim and Sharon Raines leaving the Reidsville parking lot in their 1952 Bentley Mark VI 4 dr sedan. Jim seems to like the right hand drive, especially on narrow country roads where he has a bird's eye view of the deep ditches. grin

Wait until tomorrow (Thurs), Jim might change his mind! It's a little more than a deep ditch if you run off the road.

Wayne,

Remember - you are traveling in one of our home states. We have members from Virginia, North and South Carolina. Don't have any members from Louisiana though but maybe we need to go there on a recruitment mission. Hmnn! I can't help it that you are picking our cars to show. laugh

Oh - yes Jim and Sharon Raines are also Brass-Nickel members. blush

Hi guys!
The weather has been getting me down for Wednesday and Thursday. It was hot yesterday, hotter today..head index 105, that means humid. Our parking lot was full of mechanics repairing the day's breakdowns. We had a burned out wheel bearing, stuck thermostat, flathead point problems, and a blown head gasket on a very nice '38 Ford pickup. 11:13 here, just caught another gentleman replacing his power steering pulley after repair. He said he'll be able to parallel park again.

Here's our "morning crew". They hand out the daily "Sentimental Star", updates, cold water, snacks, and area info each morning.

At the awards banquet on Friday night, some poor soul won this nice plaque for having the biggest breakdown. It was a stuck thermostat on his '57 Thunderbird that enabled him to win this.

That would be the end of this story, but the flatbed trailer had a flat tire this morning, so I guess anyone can have a little bad luck. Maybe David can add the owners name for the award.

Wayne, do you have any photos of the Badgett Sisters Parkway? That has got to be the best Model A Driving Road I have ever been on. I sure could not take any photos while driving it and my 10 year old photographer was sliding all over the seat while taking a nap, as I drove on it.

Only picture taken Friday showing a crooked road. We're following Charlie Froehllich of Carriere, Mississippi in his 1956 Thunderbird. Charlie kept his black 'Bird clean all week, a major task considering the occasional gravel roads we traveled.

Another twisty road from Thursday's travels. Hulon McCraw owns the "air conditioned" Caddy in the center of the group....lucky dog. smile
Hulon had any number of volunteers as navigators for his car. wink
(sorry about the fuzzy picture!)

Thursday breakfast break at Old Glencoe Village, an old restored textile mill town (at least the old two story homes are restored). Breakfast breaks were popular on this Sentimental Tour.

Same town with Otta Watson's Franklin again. I'm sorry guys, but this car just begs to be in pictures with old buildings. I can imagine the owner of the textile mill having one of these fantastic automobiles.

Oh, the red and black Model A is nice too. It's owned by SL and Norma Sain of Charlotte NC.

Back to Wednesday. We visited the car collector, no names please. He had about 5 sheds similar to this but older. I was walking towards the back of his building lot, when a young fellow told me that there were many more cars throughout the woods further down the lane.......about 6 MILES further down the lane. eek laugh

This should wake you guys up. How many of these do you see around anymore?

Matt, I'm willing to up there and video that road to share with people. I figured that some people would love me for that streach of road while other would be putting me on thier hit list. That use to be the HWY 62, main road from burlington in to yanceyville.

You didn't get to drive the complete raod due to a bridge being out. The alternate route to get you this road, got closed down a few days before the tour with the DOT taking out another bridge so we had to re-re-write the driving instructions.

And to add to the confusion a lot of people had, the orginal route was Oak View Loop Rd., then instead of when you turned onto Alvis Boswell road, you would have continued straight onto Oakview Loop Rd. then made a right onto Baddget Sister's Pkwy. Writing instruction was really intresting doue to the number of roads that change names in the middle of the road, at an intersection it is one thing on the right another on the left.

Here is a satalite look at the road.

To be truthful David, it's a little depressing to me to see famous cars left out in the elements like that Godfather car. The car board signs have moisture damage on them and it would have been better if it was inside a museum somewhere.

I'd like to buy that '56 nomad he had, though! smile

From the look of those hand prints on the trunk of that Caddy it seems that the local Sheriff must have caught up with one of speedier tour members. blush whistle

Wayne and David the photos are great. Thank you for sharing the stories and photos. smile

Bill and I hope to go on a tour with our "new" antique, the 1974 Mercedes 450SL. Bill is working every day on it and we just got it inspected so it is now able to be on the road. Now all we need is two new seatbelts (the orginials are badly damaged from being shut in the doors cry ) and we can start taking drives in it. cool

Forgot to mention that good "old" Matt won the youngest tour driver award! Gosh, over 40 years of age and being called old! eek

Matt's '29 Ford Model A Senior Grand National Winner

Now, Mike insists that he WILL drive my car on the next AACA tour. Guess I'll leave Gloria home for that trip. wink

Grabbed a magazine off the rack yesterday that had some interesting nostalgic old car pictures. Stories about present day rodders(don't you hate that word) finding and restoring old gassers and hot rods. One story was looking back to the days of Lions Drag Strip in California. About halfway through a picture popped in my head. It took me 15 minutes to find the one I thought of, a picture that Earl D Beauchamp, Jr. took somewhere on our tour last week. I never saw this homestead. After all, there was so much to see.

The neat things about AACA Touring is not only the people you tour with, the old cars, and old acquaintances you see again, but, it's the new country side you've never witnessed before. You know, our own country's history, it's heartland!

Earl's photo below, represents that to a T.

That's Bennett Place. One of the many historic places that we had the opportunity to see.

For those who could not go on the tour, you can read about it here.
