Only picture taken Friday showing a crooked road. We're following Charlie Froehllich of Carriere, Mississippi in his 1956 Thunderbird. Charlie kept his black 'Bird clean all week, a major task considering the occasional gravel roads we traveled.



Another twisty road from Thursday's travels. Hulon McCraw owns the "air conditioned" Caddy in the center of the group....lucky dog.
Hulon had any number of volunteers as navigators for his car.

Thursday breakfast break at Old Glencoe Village, an old restored textile mill town (at least the old two story homes are restored). Breakfast breaks were popular on this Sentimental Tour.

Same town with Otta Watson's Franklin again. I'm sorry guys, but this car just begs to be in pictures with old buildings. I can imagine the owner of the textile mill having one of these fantastic automobiles.

Oh, the red and black Model A is nice too. It's owned by SL and Norma Sain of Charlotte NC.

Back to Wednesday. We visited the car collector, no names please. He had about 5 sheds similar to this but older. I was walking towards the back of his building lot, when a young fellow told me that there were many more cars throughout the woods further down the lane.......about 6 MILES further down the lane.



This should wake you guys up. How many of these do you see around anymore?

Matt, I'm willing to up there and video that road to share with people. I figured that some people would love me for that streach of road while other would be putting me on thier hit list. That use to be the HWY 62, main road from burlington in to yanceyville.

You didn't get to drive the complete raod due to a bridge being out. The alternate route to get you this road, got closed down a few days before the tour with the DOT taking out another bridge so we had to re-re-write the driving instructions.

And to add to the confusion a lot of people had, the orginal route was Oak View Loop Rd., then instead of when you turned onto Alvis Boswell road, you would have continued straight onto Oakview Loop Rd. then made a right onto Baddget Sister's Pkwy. Writing instruction was really intresting doue to the number of roads that change names in the middle of the road, at an intersection it is one thing on the right another on the left.

Wayne, this is the one I figured you'd post.

To be truthful David, it's a little depressing to me to see famous cars left out in the elements like that Godfather car. The car board signs have moisture damage on them and it would have been better if it was inside a museum somewhere.

From the look of those hand prints on the trunk of that Caddy it seems that the local Sheriff must have caught up with one of speedier tour members.

Bill and I hope to go on a tour with our "new" antique, the 1974 Mercedes 450SL. Bill is working every day on it and we just got it inspected so it is now able to be on the road. Now all we need is two new seatbelts (the orginials are badly damaged from being shut in the doors ) and we can start taking drives in it.

Forgot to mention that good "old" Matt won the youngest tour driver award! Gosh, over 40 years of age and being called old!

Grabbed a magazine off the rack yesterday that had some interesting nostalgic old car pictures. Stories about present day rodders(don't you hate that word) finding and restoring old gassers and hot rods. One story was looking back to the days of Lions Drag Strip in California. About halfway through a picture popped in my head. It took me 15 minutes to find the one I thought of, a picture that Earl D Beauchamp, Jr. took somewhere on our tour last week. I never saw this homestead. After all, there was so much to see.

The neat things about AACA Touring is not only the people you tour with, the old cars, and old acquaintances you see again, but, it's the new country side you've never witnessed before. You know, our own country's history, it's heartland!

Doing 55-60 on that road makes VIR look like a round track!!

David, I hope you'll be driving something other than that big Dodge pickup. Those narrow one lane bridges would just eat up fiberglass fenders.

This is a 1939 Buick Series 41 Special sedan from North Carolina. The owners, Robert and Linda Miller, brought this new or new-looking restoration from nearby Fuquay-Varina, NC. Mr. Miller is a World War II veteran, who bought a 1939 Buick Special sedan in the east (I thinkhe said PA) during the War as transportation to get to a new assignment in California. He and his wife were under the gun to get there by a certain date, and he drove that '39 Buick across the country almost non-stop as fast as he could go. When he saw this car, it sparked those memories. As a '39 Buick enthusiast, I have to tell you that this is the first restored '39 Buick Special sedan I've ever seen with the correct broadcloth interior material. The paint job was exquisite (look at the reflection in the side of the door) and he told me he painted it a color that his wife, Linda, loved.

I know you would like to know - Bob and Lynda are Brass-Nickel members also. Besides this car, Bob is also a Model T expert. A beautiful car. You should have seen the car when he started the restoration on it. He found it at Richard's Salvage Yard. The odd thing about this car is that we knew the previous owner. He was a member of Triangle Chapter from the Raleigh area.
