I sure hope this got your attention! The AACA Library & Research Center along with the club and the AACA Museum will have an unprecedented auction of custom designed pedal cars during RM's auction on Friday night during the fall meet in Hershey. This is no small deal!

12 of the finest craftsman, restoration shops and designers in the US have taken a Champion comet pedal car and have transformed it into their vision. I am attaching a picture of one in progress. I am sure you will all figure out what it is going to be! However, others are building a Cadillac, Oldsmobile Fiesta, Jaguar, Duesenberg, street rod, french styled "Pebble Beach" type, etc. The investment that these great, great folks are making in this project is nothing short of unreal. All the proceeds will go the the 3 AACA entities!! The pedal cars will be featured in RM's catalog along with our website and numerous publications.

The interesting thing was that there was NO arm twisting of these people. They all did it to support us and seem to be having fun with it despite the fact that it is ocurring during their busiest time of the year. The 14 participants are:

Advanced Auto Technologies
General Motors
Dale Adams Enterprises
Posies Special Interest Vehicles
Antique Auto Shop
Al Pruiett & Sons
Paintworks
Hill's Automotive
Automotive Restorations
Fran Roxas
D&D Classic Automobile Restorations
and the world famous Westley Peterson Coachworks

We even had to turn down a couple of folks. I do want to mention that Rick Hoover was one of the first persons to agree to do one with my help but we backed out to let another guy who really wanted in. West was adamant that he could do a better job than any of these guys so we let him stay in as well! grin Well, ok he didn't quite say that but he certainly has a daunting task to keep up with the big boys!

Stay tuned, this will be fun!

I am keeping this thread sticky and will update it as I get the information. Plus it will be on RM's website in the future as well.

You will be able to see the cars themselves at the RM Auction during the fall meet at the Hershey Lodge. Naturally admission is subject to whatever RM's arrangements will be for this year. Or, you can help me bring them to the photo studio in Harrisburg for the shoot! grin

A couple of the cars will be at Meadowbrook this weekend, at the RM tent, and likely at Saturday night's Gala.

Time to leak a few photos of our car...

A fully hand-shaped metal body. No bondo here!

This gives an idea of what the car will look like when it's done. The bumpers and trim are getting plated as I type this, and painting comes tomorrow - just in time for Meadowbrook! Speaking of those bumpers, those are all sheet metal. We created hammerforms for each piece you see there.

Enjoy! Hope to see you all this weekend!

Talk with Steve. We already have several shops wanting to get involved. I'm hoping we get started a little earlier for next year to allow shops the opportunity to work on their cars during off-peek months. This year the pedal cars were being worked on at the same time big cars were being finished up for major shows across the country.
An extra-special thanks to the shops that took time out of their extremely busy and hectic schedules to do this for AACA!!! smile

This one is still in the design stages, but we've been promised it will be finished for Hershey. It's called Safari and will be painted black and deep burgundy, with cane-work on the side. Leather upholstery is planned, along with working headlights and taillights.

Wow, beautiful work done by all! I LOVE the paint job on the Olds. And the interior. Very classy. The hood ornament on the Packard is great. And is that fiberglass on the Duesie? It looks awesome!

Please excuse our mess at Meadowbrook, the weather last night created a paint disaster... it will be fixed before the auction, though.

I'll post pics tomorrow afternoon of our car fully assembled. We're getting the last bits in from the plater this afternoon, and are shooting photos tomorrow morning.

That SSJ is going to be spectacular. I especially like how in the photo it's posed in front of the Throne Car chassis.

The Caddy and Fiesta generated a lot of positive feedback for the charity at Meadowbrook this weekend! We had a blast hanging out with the RM folks, and new friendships were made.

We will be promoting the auction at the Glenmoor Gathering in Canton, Ohio next weekend (Sept 13th and 14th). With posters and one of the pedal cars.

Edit: Good comments on the pedal car event this weekend at Glenmoor. Good show too - a bit soggy on Saturday for the tour, but the sun came out on Sunday. Many gorgeous cars.

I'm really slow out of the starting blocks, but it's nearing completion. These photos illustrate how much nicer the original car looks if it's been lowered.
The car is now painted black, with a deep burgundy hood. Also, the basket weaving has been applied as per my original design. Dashboard has been installed and the steering wheel has been lowered.
Final sanding and some clear paint this week, then onto the leather interior.

I can't get over the chassis behind the little Duesenberg SSJ, let alone the quality of the work being displayed here.

Thank heavens there are still folks out there building up to a quality and not down to a price.

The following is a link to the pictures of our Y2Kid pedal car which is now on display at Hershey. The car is painted the same tri-coat burgundy paint as the Buick Blackhawk that we built and even uses the same leather that we had left over.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Is RM or AACA going to publish the results of the pedal cars, or perhaps just the top three, and what the total was for the total of all of them going to the museum? And perhaps the photos of all of them?
