Does anyone know what color the cast iron part of the jetfire turbo should be painted? I’m ready to send mine out to get it rebuilt, but before I do I’d like to send the turbine section to JetHot to get it ceramic coated. I know that JetHot’s coating won’t be correct, but I would like the color to be reasonably close to original.

As far as I know, they were natural cast iron color. Any paint would burn off quick due to temps involved.

Good luck with this. The vast majority of Jetfires got changed over to 4-barrel carb in a factory recall. It was just like the Chevrolet fuel injection. Great idea, but it got dropped on the dealer service organization with little to no training. Those old-line mechanics simply weren't prepared to deal with it

For that matter, if only Olds had dropped the compression a point or so...

Still a reminder of a time when GM wasn't afraid to take a risk with different technology.

Looking at period photos and advertisements, it appears that they may have been painted silver. You're right though, they’re all rust colored now.
