doe's any one know if chrysler ever made a block for either chrysler dodge plymouth or desoto with the engine # on the top left rear of the block instead of the top left front . the reason for asking is there is a guy in the local club who has a 39 plymouth and says his engine # is on the rear , i have never seen the car but hope to soon .

Hi arcage i am in Hawkes Bay , i run my car on 96 , you don't need to worry about addatives to replace the lead in the fuel as your has hardened valve seats, as for the engine # your cars # ,if it is the original block will be on the top left front as mine is on my 39 desoto , the 39 plymouths should be also if it is the original , as i said i have yet to see the car in question , personaly i have never heard of a chrysler, plymouth, desoto or dodge with the engine # on the rear , but we can always learn some thing new every day

Hi Elmo 39,Thanks for that info. Talk about learning som ething every day! Did you see the 39 Desoto or Plymouth that was badged as a Chrysler Royal for sale on trademe in Wellington some months ago-maybe even last year. This was a humpback model.I had never seen that before and wondered if it had originated from Australia. Seemed in pretty god nick too and was reasonably priced.I will check my engine out tommorrow, thanks Warwick.

arcade most but not all chryslers desotos and dodges that came to NZ back then were rebadged plymouths with some times a grill to suit and upgraded trim . i restored a 37 chrysler about 10 years ago and it was actually a rebadged plymouth right down to the grill but did have upgraded trim plus opening quarter light windows . most of the aussie ass ones were sloper models which was purely an aussie design

Hi Elmo, Have checked and my engine # is on the top left of block too. I checked my paint code number out of interest which looks like # 28. Car is currently a metallic type fawn or light brown. Anyone know what colour 28 was?tks Warwick .
