I have a cast aluminum water guide mounted atop an engine (see photo). It is pitted and oxidized here & there. Is there a way to repair a casting like this, or is there anyone who could copy it?

Phil, that would seem to be a very simple piece to build up as a pattern, to get a new one cast. I did exactly this with the one for my 1918 Mercer in 1970, and we got around contraction of 3/16" per foot OK for a much longer piece. You have to think how the pattern draws out of the casting sand, and make it smooth with filler so they do this. If you have a non-ferrous foundry near you, talk to the man.
Regards, Ivan.

There are a few welders out there that can do the job. For a good reproduction, try these guys, they will use your old part for a pattern.

We work with a local foundry and have in house machining capabilities to reproduce most early castings if not too large or overly complex. Just completed an end cap for an early Remy generator/distributor drive. Simple casting, difficult machining. We can do bronze, aluminum and cast iron.

Check out www.muggyweld.com. You may like the aluminum repair option with the products available from them. Take a look!

Good luck!

Interesting products. I will try their Super Alloy 5 to repair an aluminum casting with chunks missing. It's a bracket for the shift lever, and somebody did a crummy job with it. I'll report back and tell you if it works.
