Does anyone have a damaged hardtop that they could sacrifice the latch handle (on the drivers side) from? This is the handle under the opera window. When removing my hardtop to do the quarter window swap the handle broke off in my hand as I went to unlatch it. frown
Fortunately there was enough of a stub left that I was able to slide a large screwdriver tip behind it to unlock the latch...
Thanks,
Brian

Can someone post a pic of how the hardtop latches/handles differ from 89,90 to 91. The 89 and 90's are the same but since I don't have a 91 sitting around (yet wink )I have nothing to compare to...

I have never owned a 91 Mad, but I believe they dont have a latch there in the hard top... Just a post that fits into the reciever?

BTW, I found an 89 TC in the J-Yard a couple weeks ago. THought about you but the hardtop and lights and doors and seats and... were gone when I got there. Nicest TC of the 5 or so I've ever found in a yard frown No reason to be there other than the owner who obviously lavished attention on it must have passed away or something very serious where he couldnt care for the car anymore.

They did away with the Hard top side latches in what could be referred to as late '90. Lou

Thanks guys! Maybe for the time being I'll just convert my 90 to a 91. So can I assume the posts are primarily there for locating the top in the correct position and then as a secondary anchor point, rather than being a primary anchor point?

I believe that to be correct. It appears to me that all the cars have the reciever part of the latches. and if you get an early top it will fit on a later car, and the latches will work. ~ And ~ I think the late tops will work OK on an early car.. good luck, Lou

They will all interchange. The 89's/early 90's had an actual latch above the b-pillar, where the later cars (later 90's/91's) just had a centering post that slid into the hole.

The earlier hardtop latch will fit in the hole for the later one; there just isn't anything to "latch" to. The later post one will fit into the latch for the early one.
