Hi, this is my '54 Chrysler New Yorker project car I've been working on for over a year now. (Bought it disassembled)
My thought is to gradually turn it into a car looking somewhat as an Higway Patrol car.
Not sure how I'm going to do with the grille, the original doesn't fit anylonger due to body damage on frontfenders and turn signal housings..

(The metalpart over windshield is a start for a Sunvisor bracket)

It's a nice car running smooth and quiet.

/ Jimmy

Hey Jimmy, is that one of the cars with an automatic and a clutch pedal? Growing up our neighbors aunt had one of those. I can't remember the details of when the clutch was required. I think shifting into drive and into reverse or something like that?

Sweet cop car!!!

Fluid Drive I think it is you're referring to Mr. D? If I recall correctly the clutch was needed to shift into gear from park, then once it was in gear you could come to a stop with just the brakes and the fluid coupling slipped at a stop. Then you could just lift your foot off the brake and onto the gas when the stoplight turned green.

Hi, the car have the Powerflite fully automatic tranny.
I think the '53 cars were the first with the fully automatic.
Strange how late the Chryslers were on that point..

Nice that you like the car, i've had mixed reactions.
Most people like the beacon on the roof.
But i think it's one of those things, you either love it or hate it.

One guy asked me how i fastened it to the roof and when i told him that i had drilled holes in the roof and used bolts he just shook his head.
(And i must admit i messured probably 20 times over a weeks time and looked from differnet angles before i got the courage to do it.)

Oh JEEZ ya know you think I could actually read something once in awhile. Like a little tyke I saw the picutres and thats ALL I paid attention to. Figured it was originally a squad car. Oh well I have no less respect for it. Still cool. Theres a guy I've become real chummy with over the last couple years hangin out at shows and cruises (and the LATE night hangout at a Wendy's parking lot Fri and Sat nights!) who has a '72 Polara original CHP car, which is just gorgeous and has all the correct equipment he hunted down. So he's a MOPAR copcar guy too! It's real neat, kinda got me interested in the old enforcers!

If you did it right and did it neatly, it's period correct ya know, and done the way they woulda done it! Maybe they wrecked one in a chase and had to replace it and this is that car, one more than you would have thought existed! grin
