Also Google Buick Invicta, lots of new information was released at 8PM in China.

Apparently the GM Press Release must have had a problem, look for it on Monday, probably.

I had grief with the link, but did some digging...I like, especially the quarter area.

Having been raised by a 1959 Buick 4 door hardtop Invicta (which I believe was the first year Buick used the name Invicta), I am thrilled to see the name come roaring back. The 1959 Buick Invicta truly was invincible! It was a Flash Gordon "rocket" ready to take me to Mars whenever I wanted to go! It had to be invincible, because my parents had 5 boys to raise with this car. My dad had 250,000 miles to travel in this car, since he was a traveling salesman. Charles D. Barnette

Buick Lovers this is big news when China and Detroit come together over a Buick Invicta design. The name was used by Buick first in 1959 and retired after 1963. It makes me want to go out and find my father's 1959 Invicta. Charles D. Barnette- PS I tried to give the GM sites here, but apparently they are still messed up.

Just to clarify, the car was designed jointly in the USA and China. The production version of this car for the North American market will be built in the USA.

Charles,

For '58-'59, in what can only be described as the most "Mondo Bizarro" ad campaign ever,
Fisher Body produced a series of stunning ads for all five GM Divisions.

"The 'Magic Mirror' that stretches time--
ON EVERY 'TIME PROOF' BODY BY FISHER"
touted their new, eclusive acrylic lacquer paint process.

Salvador Dali must be smiling somewhere up there!

This just in...

Anyone have pictures? I'm not finding any in some low-grade searching. I recall that the recent Chinese Park Avenue was a great-looking car that I wished could come to the US.

It may just be me, but I'd like to see a car offered with something other than a grey, black or tan interior.
How nice would it be to have a colour keyed interior like a red leather interior in a silver or black car... or a blue leather in a blue car, or green interior in a green or tan car. Ok, green may be a little over the top, but I would really like more colour inside!

Well, looks to me from some of those pictures, you'd have to be a Chinaman, Jap or midget to get into the back seat. I don't see anything that lights my fire. Actually kinda looks like a revamped Chrysler model. Put some sculpture in the sides, fins on the back and angled headlamps in front and I might consider calling it an Invicta.

Here's Ed Welburn talking about it...it includes a few different angles...Reatta1, you may want to watch to see the sculptured sides...I'm not sure I like it though...neat design if nothing else.

Thanks for that link Derek. It did give me a better look at the body shape than what I've seen on the other site. Different, to say the least, BUT IT STILL NEEDS FINS smile

For me, it would still take some getting used to, like the boattail Rivies of the 70's. I didn't like them when they first came out but grew to like them enough to own two of them.

Charles,

Just found this on ebay, while looking for something else. It's a fridge magnet of the '59 Invicta image above...just in case you need one.

John, when the Enclave was in the early stages Buick had a sign up for people to be in on an advisory panel, which was basically a poll that was emailed out periodically with questions pertaining to features, styling, etc, etc. I have started to recieve that same poll on the Invicta, so I could assume that it is a pretty sure thing. I have also actually seen teaser adds on the web on sites such as the weather channel. I would say all this leads one to believe that it is actually going to be produced.

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty, and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors. But they all have to live in the same box.

Well, I hope they do release this in the USA, including the glass top. That makes a bold statement and would be nice to drive.

A glass top in that car in black would make a bold statement in the summer....Geez is it hot outside! Or in a really bad rain storm....Geez, that's some wicked looking lightning. I wish I didn't have this glass top.

I speak from experience driving a GN with T-Tops. The only way I'd take a glass top is if there were a sunshade under it like a moonroof car. In winter they can be cold, summer, too hot, and in bad storms, just downright scary as hell. I'd be happy enough with a nice big moonroof tho. I too would like to see this sold in the USA. Sharp looking car.

Charles Barnette has forwarded some photos of an early Invicta -- a 1960 Invicta Estate Wagon -- that he spotted at the Pate Swap Meet. Charles has asked me to share these photos here with you.

The Invicta Estate Wagons from '59 and '60 have always been rare sights, even when new.

Charles, this car looks familiar to me. I looked at a '60 Invicta Estate Wagon at the Portland, Oregon swap meet ten or more years ago. The car, finished in this same color combination, subsequently sold to an Eastern Washington buyer, then later turned up for sale on the internet with wheels that looked very much like these. I can't help but wonder whether this might possibly be the same car. Was it offered for sale?

Sigh.

To each his own, but it saddens me to see such a rare car customized. I can live with customizing, but I'd rather it was of more common stock.

I'd say that car makes a bold statement too. I didn't even know an Invicta wagon existed.

Love those 59's and 60's. Thriller, It doesn't take long to get those custom rims off.

True, but the tinted glass (at least the curved pieces) would be a bit more difficult to replace.

I think the tinted glass is just an applied film.
I'd like to see the interior of that wagon.

Well here's my $.10 ( $.02 won't get you anything) I think Buick would be really stupid for not releasing this here in the states. This is a car with some fine tuning could finally be the "Car of the supercharged family". Yeah it might not be easy to get in and out of the back seat but so what. I say make it a two door all black with a V8 and you'd have a GN for the next generation. I also agree lets see more color in the interiors, I think all these "luxury" cars are very boring from the inside out- even Saturn Arua's have mood lighting what ever happened to this in the Buicks? As for the all glass roof- a little to close to the Toyota Scion Tc for my liking but easliy fixed- make it a convertible(Velite anyone?) But really I'd like to more information like what engine, curb weight, price and most importantly gas mileage before really making a decision on my true feelings about this car but while looking at pics of it a young kid working the computer next to me asked what kind of a car it was and when I said Buick he dad said I was lying but if it was he'd buy it(ARE YOU LISTENING BUICK?) by the way the kid liked it too.
