Has anyone seen the article on the unusual 1953 Skylark published in the May issue of Car Collector magazine? This Skylark was originally painted a non-production Seafoam Green with contrasting Jade Green fender wells. The original upholstery was green. Furthermore, the entire dash was chrome-plated! The car has been restored but now it wears non-production black paint; the interior including the dash is red. Color codes were left blank on the data plate. Does anyone have any further information on this Skylark? One must wonder if it was a GM Motorama show car. Of course it may have been custom-built for a special customer.

I also received the MAY issue of COLLECTOR CAR magazine.I wonder if the current owner documented what he had BEFORE the restoration.I would like to see the original pattern of the seats and door panels.Since the top bows were also green I wonder what color the top was? I would have restored the car back to it's color combination but that is just my preference.I think this skylark was built to display on the show curcuit but I have never seen any photos to document this.Can you imagine the cost today to replate the dashboard!

I fully agree the car should have been restored to its original colors - even the dash should have been replated. Yes, it would have been costly, but the car is a 53 Skylark and not only that, it is a unique Skylark! Perhaps the owner just hated Seafoam Green and cutting the dash out to have it chromed and then reweld it back in certainly would have involved some inconvenience. Imagine driving the car with the top down on a cloudless day with that chrome dash in front of you! I believe for this reason the car was meant strictly as a show car. A chrome-plated dash is not practical. Customizers have done it in the past, but for show.
