I have installed an electric fuel pump in my stock 1939 chrysler and it works great... However I get this constant noise fron the pump that kinda bugs me. Is this normal... was kinda thinken it would shut off when the carb was full.

That depends on the pump you purchased. Some have a pressure switch, but most don't. Many of them simply maintain 5-7# pressure by running all the time. What did you get?

New cars (with fuel tank pumps) run pretty much all the time. I can hear it in my wife's Dodge while I'm driving. Sounds like a noise comimg from the trunk.

You might consider getting a pendulum switch from any new car, and install it on your pump supply wires. It will shut your pump off if you are in a bad accident. Otherwise, your pump will keep spewing long after the engine is stopped. Once they trip, you can reset by pushing a button.

I cut out my electric fuel pump in my burgular alarm circuit. It works great.

Keep in mind this is a 1939 Chrysler "no burgular" system my 9 MM seems to work well in that area. Thanks for the message this pump was pretty inexpensive EBay thing... Soooo I quess I will get used to the noise or go back to original style pump. I do have a kill switch in the cirucit that I use when I work on other systems of the car when power is needed. The pump should shut off when the carb is full. 5 - 7 lbs pressure is way too much. Add a pressure regulator and cut it down to no more than 2 pounds just before the carb.

What was wrong with the original fuel pump?

You could rubber-mount it and use rubber hoses; that should quiet it down.

Is the pressure regulator thing something every auto parts place should have? The old original gave out... it is so out of character for me to go electric but just wanted to give one a try. Rusty when I installed the electric pump I purged the system into a can to remove any dirt/stuff in the line from the installation and the flow amount did seem very high. I like the idea of a regulator...

Regulators can be purchased at most auto parts stores. I don't know why you don't just put on a rebuilt stock pump.
