That depends on the pump you purchased. Some have a pressure switch, but most don't. Many of them simply maintain 5-7# pressure by running all the time. What did you get?
New cars (with fuel tank pumps) run pretty much all the time. I can hear it in my wife's Dodge while I'm driving. Sounds like a noise comimg from the trunk.
You might consider getting a pendulum switch from any new car, and install it on your pump supply wires. It will shut your pump off if you are in a bad accident. Otherwise, your pump will keep spewing long after the engine is stopped. Once they trip, you can reset by pushing a button.
I cut out my electric fuel pump in my burgular alarm circuit. It works great.
