Just received the March/April 2008 Antique Automobile Magazine. I noticed in the Calendar of Events that the 2009 GN looks like it will be a Dual Meet in conjunction with the Central Fall Meet.
Have a question about the dates published in the magazine. I noticed the Grand National's date is listed as September 17, 2009 (Thursday) and the Fall Meet is September 18, 2009 (Friday). Those days of the week seem a little odd for AACA Car Show events. Could this be a mis-print or are these events really taking place on a Thursday and Friday?
I can think of a few reasons for the unusal days of the week such as providing Saturday & Sunday as travel days home or possibly these dates are the only ones available at the facility where the events are being held.
Anyone else have any thoughts or further information?

Sorry. Should be 17-19, with the show dates being Friday and Saturday.

Anybody think the cost of gas/diesel will adversely affect old car travel to shows and tours the rest of this year and next? What do you think? Severally, slightly, none. I know that with the Suburban getting 7.3 mpg it's got to affect me somewhere - maybe one or two less shows or tours. The Suburban has a 454 cid. The problem with a newer truck is those 5.3 and 5.7 engines won't pull the load I don't think. I know that the Ford 351 I had before the Suburban wouldn't pull the load.

Dodge Turbo Diesel, 17 mpg empty, 14 pulling a 24ft trailer hauling a 6000 lb Cadillac. Of course diesel is $4/gal so it does tend to even out.

I had to make 6 gas stops on my way home from Florida and it cost me roughly $80 every time that I stopped. Plus the room and meals, I'll be glad if I can keep the credit card bill below $1,500 after it's all said and done.
Actually Matt the show in Kansas for me will be shorter than it was going to Florida. Three years ago we hauled our woodie out to Northglenn, and that was over 1,600 miles, where this last trip was just over 1,300.
Hershey will always be do-able, but the other stuff will be getting harder.
.....I think the politicians need to spend more time arguing about fuel prices instead of the war.

I know that the Ford 351 I had before the Suburban wouldn't pull the load. 496cid/320hp G-code V8 (8.1 liters) available in the 2003-2006 Avalanche and it gets 14-15mpg (no trailer), 11mpg with 8,000lbs. on the back. The Avalanche is a much better towing vehicle than the 454 Suburban, much better gas mileage as well.

Here's an idea for a fund raiser for AACA or The Museum. Charter a bus for those from the Hershey area who travel to distant shows to judge or just view cars but do not show a car. Package deal, transportation and lodging. Thoughts? Might be worth further investigation, especially with the cost of fuel.
