Ok, guys, I've got the serial number from a friend's pickup. He wants to know if you can tell him any history just by the serial number?

Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne, I would call the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. They probably should have some history of the vehicle, but I am afraid that the history that they are going to give you will be that it was assembled from parts and titled on a particular date, as the special number plate would appear to be what we would call a State assigned ID number in NC (which replaces a vehicle serial number or VIN, on a reconstructed vehicle)

I have a special number plate on my model A.The serial no on a model A is the motor number and if the motor is changed you had to get one of these to get it inspected or for license plates.I got mine in 1965 when I restored the car.The original serial number is stamped on the top of the frame under the drivers side of the cowl.Very hard to get to.It was fairly common back then and did not mean an assembled car
