I am looking at restoring the exhaust hangers that go in the bumper ends of my 57 Roadmaster. The steel is in great shape after a quick blast. I already drilled out the big rivets which I'll just replace with nuts & bolts I think. The reinforced rubber is all I need now. I've looked around some trying to find a source. Most places that have it want to sell you 5 feet off a roll. I really only need about a square foot to do both. Any ideas where I could get what I need.

What I use is scrapped stone or sand quarry conveyer belting. The stuff is about 1/2" thick and runs anywhere from 3 to 5 feet wide. Most quarries usally have tons of it laying somewhere. I also use the stuff on the concrete floor in front of my benches to ease my feet. You could also use truck tire side wall.......Bob

That's what I did for the exhaust on my Riviera. I bought some generic hangers at my corner auto parts store and just used the rubber strips, threw the metal bits in the bin.

I stock a narrower width roll of reinforced rubber in my restoration shop. How much width and length do you need?

So I went ahead and used the sidewall from an old tire. Not exactly NOS, but I am sure they will work just fine. I actually have a NOS set of hangers. My car is never going to be a 100 pointer, so I am going to just use my restored hangers. I'm going to make someone who needs NOS perfect happy. And hopefully a few bucks for me so I can buy other parts. The NOS set is up on ebay.
