I need some help with the front fender assembly on my 1/2 ton KCL truck. The truck was in very bad shape when I got it and I've gone through a very long and difficult restoration with no other trucks to use as a guide. These trucks are fairly rare today so I have no one but you guys on the net to turn for help.
My question is about the 'strange' bolts that hold the fender to the frame cheek. They have no threads for about 1/3 of their length which means they stop tightening and leave a 'loose' area under their heads for the fender to move in and out. This not the ordinary lack of threads that some bolts have just under their heads. 1/3 of the bolt shaft is smooth with no thread.
Why? Is something missing under the head like a rubber washer that was meant to stop the fender from moving? The HCs and KCs share most of their sheet metal with 1933 cars. I am actually using 1933 DP front fenders on my KCL truck.
Anybody out there know what gives with these bolts?
